SOUTH BARRINGTON, Ill. (February 5, 2009) – Fantastic ice sculptures, a game-filled beach party concert, and an Outdoor Discovery School are some of the highlights at the Winterfest at The Arboretum of South Barrington on President’s Day, Monday, Feb. 16, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Throughout the day, Chicagoland’s Art Below Zero will create and display ice sculptures at three carving stations situated around The Arboretum of South Barrington. There will also be a small ice sculpture created especially for photo opportunities (bring your camera).
Meanwhile, the free Dave Rudolf Beach Party Concert kicks off with two performances beginning at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. at Pinstripes Bowling, Bocce & Bistro. The party of “music, mirth, and mayhem” features an abundance of activities for youths and their parents. Featured are Limbo, Hula hoop, jump rope, Conga lines and other interactive fun to the tunes of Jimmy Buffet, Harry Belafonte and award winning Dave Rudolf himself. Mr. Rudolf’s albums have garnered three Parent’s Choice Awards and two Parent’s Guide Awards, while his book Please Don’t Tease the Dragon was a finalist for the Benjamin Franklin Award for Humor.
Families are invited to stay for lunch at Pinstripes, which will serve specials on spaghetti and meatballs and chopped salad. In addition, the Pinstripes will offer free shoe rental with every bowling game.
Other Winterfest activities include South Barrington and Hoffman Estates Park Districts demonstrations and exhibits in conjunction with L.L. Bean, including an Outdoor Discovery School. Guests can also learn about snowshoeing, kayak adventures and fly fishing.
