The Arboretum of South Barrington is providing the following list of June events and news items to the press to better help you plan stories, photography, or calendar briefs. Information on the following subjects is included below:
June 19 & 20 (Fri. & Sat.) TWO ARBORETUM STORES TO DISPLAY GARDEN PARTY VIGNETTES, at the 9th Annual Barrington County Garden & Antique Faire held in Barrington Hills as a fundraiser for Hands of Hope. Finishing Touches Studio will present bright colors and a wide use of textures in all the elements of its garden party setting. The table is a barrel that owner/stylist Gail Kueker painted and decoupaged from a 1940s decorating book, stenciling the chairs to match. The umbrella is hand crafted from an old oriental umbrella and a candlestick to raise it up to the appropriate height. She then chose to plant real flowers and grasses under the umbrella, allowing them to cascade down – all backed by a scene of beautiful flowering trees. Arhaus is providing four vignettes, including “Portico: A Summer Nesting Place” and “Secret Garden: A Darjeeling Affair.” “Portico” features a covered porch setting with puffs of organic cotton in red and white, and a white silk covered sofa. Reclaimed elm and neutral florals accent the scene, while a refurbished sink provides accents for an arched mirror design at the entryway. “Secret Garden” utilizes a recycled 48-inch copper-top table surrounded by a beautiful wooden gazebo and draped with window treatments from India in vibrant plums, blues, and sage. The events run from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 m. daily. The Hands of Hope is a community of women helping women in crisis, particularly women in Africa. The Arboretum of South Barrington has selected this charity as the beneficiary for its Arboretum Uncorked event on Nov. 5. For further information visit www.handsofhopeonline.org/faire.asp.

The Arboretum of South Barrington is a 600,000 square-foot retail town center in Chicago’s affluent northwest suburbs that opened in September 2008. The open-air center is named for the lush treescapes and gardens, and for the large tree farm that formerly stood on the site. Among retailers at The Arboretum of South Barrington are three unique anchors, including LL.Bean’s first Midwest outdoor gear and apparel store; the country’s first Village Roadshow Gold Class Cinemas, a luxury cinema experience and new way to go to the movies; and Pinstripes, Chicago’s own bowling, bocce and bistro concept. An upscale mix of fashion apparel brands, home furnishings, restaurants and other retailers will occupy spaces set amidst fountains, pathways and plazas -- all less than a mile from the four-way interchange at I-90 (the region’s major transportation artery), at the highly coveted intersection of Illinois Routes 59 and 72. The center is a joint venture between The Jaffe Companies in Northbrook, Ill., and RREEF Alternative Investments, based in New York.
