Holding Mercury to Headline Event, Games, Drawings & More
SOUTH BARRINGTON, Ill. (August 19, 2009) – Bands from area junior and senior high schools will compete in a “battle of the bands” contest, while teens sign up to compete in text message contests sponsored by T-Mobile, participate in rock-climbing, fast pitch games, prize drawings, and more at the Rock the Cause charitable event to be held at The Arboretum of South Barrington on Saturday, August 29, from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Headlining the event will be the Chicago alternative band Holding Mercury. All performances are free and open to the public, with minimal costs involved in ancillary fundraising activities and purchases. Each band will play in 20-minute sets in a line-up that culminates with the announcement of the winning band and the performance by Holding Mercury.
Rock the Cause will contribute to two beneficiaries through a partnership formed between The Arboretum of South Barrington and The Alexian Brothers Youth Board. A portion of the proceeds from wrist band sales (which allow entry to unlimited activities at $10 each) will go to Alexian Brothers Pediatric Services, and a $500 cash award will go to the winning band. Tickets can also be purchased for ballots on which guests can vote for their favorite band, or special event purchases such as tie-dye T-shirts and leather bracelets, or to enter drawings for a chance at special prizes. Among prizes offered are pairs of tickets to House of Blues Chicago and American Idol.
“We wanted to do something to bring teens and music together for some back-to-school fun, while supporting high school musicians,” says Michael Jaffe, developer of The Arboretum along with RREEF. “With the organizational help of the Alexian Brothers Youth Board, we’re also able to benefit a much needed children’s service in our community.”
Rock the Cause will take place across from American Eagle and Pinstripes at The Arboretum of South Barrington on 100 W. Higgins Road. For more information visit www.ShopTheArboretumSB.com or call (847) 426-6200.
The Arboretum of South Barrington is a 600,000 square-foot retail town center in Chicago’s affluent northwest suburbs that opened in September 2008. The open-air center is named for the lush treescapes and gardens, and for the large tree farm that formerly stood on the site. Among retailers at The Arboretum of South Barrington are three unique anchors, including LL.Bean’s first Midwest outdoor gear and apparel store; the country’s first Village Roadshow Gold Class Cinemas, a luxury cinema experience and new way to go to the movies; and Pinstripes, Chicago’s own bowling, bocce and bistro concept. An upscale mix of fashion apparel brands, home furnishings, restaurants and other retailers will occupy spaces set amidst fountains, pathways and plazas -- all less than a mile from the four-way interchange at I-90 (the region’s major transportation artery), at the highly coveted intersection of Illinois Routes 59 and 72. The center is a joint venture between The Jaffe Companies in Northbrook, Ill., and RREEF Alternative Investments, based in New York.
The Jaffe Companies, developer with RREEF of The Arboretum of South Barrington, has been developing successful shopping centers and mixed-use projects for nearly three decades across the US, primarily in the Midwest.
